House building begins

Milling timber for our new house

This summer we were super excited to finally begin building our new house.  Hooray!

We are building a traditional timber framed house that we have designed ourselves.  Naturally, it is yurt inspired and will be a round house!

We hired a mobile sawmill from the fantastic Clinton at Coed y Cardi.  He spent almost 2 weeks with us milling up a huge pile of Douglas Fir timber to create all the components for the timber frame. This big whopper shown in the picture was turned into a floor beam, one of the biggest components of the house.  All the timber has come from under 20 miles away.

Over the course of the build i’ll be keeping you up to date with snippets about the build so please ask if there’s anything you want to see or know.
